My Daily Ride

My go to mileage trainer is the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080, with the current model out the v7.

Having previously come from wearing Adidas trainers, specifically the Adidas Glide Boost I was pleasantly surprised with the original 1080 (non fresh foam) in 2015.

Since then though, I have to say the trainer is superb and has gone from strength to strength. Originally I tried the 880 (similar to the Nike Pegasus) but I just didn’t get on with it. It felt too firm for my liking but knew instantly that the 1080 were the trainer for me given its high levels of comfort, yet still remaining very responsive.

The new version also has a slightly wider toe box, which I find beneficial and comes in a fantastic variety of colour schemes.

Throughout the gait cycle the shoe is really comfortable and has excellent shock absorbing capabilities, leaving you feeling energised even in longer runs.

In terms of negatives, I would suggest the sizing as one. I’m probably a full size larger in the 1080, compared to being normally half a size bigger in New Balance trainers in general. But providing you know that in advance it probably isn’t necessarily a negative. They do have that dreaded squeak after a short period of time… this was annoying with Adidas too so something I’ve learnt to deal with and does stop after a few miles.

All in all a very good trainer, one that seems to be very popular amongst the running community in general and not just biased New Balance sponsored athletes!
