The benefits of running with your dog

Apart from the obvious benefits of keeping yourself and your canine friend healthy, running with your dog has many other benefits…just ask Allan Edwards if in doubt!

  1. Motivation – Sometimes we all have runs that we just don’t enjoy but that wagging tail of the dog can help increase motivation levels and help remind you how fun running can be. His relaxed style and frisky nature can rub off on you if you’re lucky!
  2. Bonding –Known as a man’s best friend (again ask Allan!) what better way is there to bond over a good run? You and your pet both have a common interest of running, dogs are natural runners and that’s what they love doing most. You can also sleep your run off afterwards together!
  3. Run Free – Dogs don’t worry about Strava segments or mile splits, they run free, to how they feel. Sometimes this is the best way for you to without getting caught up in splits and mileage.
  4. No Excuses – Once you step out of the door for that run there’s no point turning back due to laziness or bad weather, your dogs wagging tail simply won’t let you let the team down.
  5. Save Time – A good run with your dog can often save time by killing two birds with one stone. No longer do you have to rush round walking the dog, getting changed and going out for your morning run before work – simply combine the two!
  6. Good Dog – A tired dog is a good dog! We all know after a good long walk or a tough interval session chasing the ball your dog is more than happy to sleep off his exploits, which is also the case after a good long run – your postman can rest in peace!
