Have you been told you have weak glutes or your glutes aren’t firing? I know I have! having weak glutes has played a part in some of the injuries I’ve had previsouly. I now make sure I add glute exercises into my training 3 times a week as I understand how important they are for runner.
Having weak glutes are often part of the root cause for many running injuries, studies have shown common injuries such as Achilles tendinitis, Shin splints, Runners knee and IT band syndrome come down to weakness in your glutes. When you neglect the glutes other muscles such as calf hamstring quads will take over during your workout and become stronger.
Strong glutes are a distance runner’s primary source of power. The glute consists of three muscles in the buttocks the gluteus maximus, medius and minimus. During a run the glutes are responsible for hip extension which helps move the body forward.
