It’s a relatively well-publicised fact that if you become dehydrated your performance instantly begins to suffer…
Given this ‘mini’ heat wave we’ve been experiencing in the UK recently and insane amount of SOS I’ve been consuming I thought I’d review the SOS electrolyte hydration drink, which is supposedly as effective as an IV drip!
The drink comes in a powder form and is easily mixed with water for a great tasting drink. It’s available in different flavours including, berry, citrus, mango and the not so good tasting coconut… however mix it with berry and you’re onto a winner!
I find it really easy to take away with me to races or even just out to the office. Adding it to water also makes it really easy to have an instant hydration hit on the move, which is also a lot more palatable than water.
SOS Rehydrate explains how osmolality is the balance between water and sodium in the body. The body’s normal (isotonic) osmolarity is 290mmol/L. From a rehydration perspective, the lower the osmolarity, the faster the body can absorb water. SOS claims that SOS Rehydrate osmolarity is 20% lower than the average hydration drink, 25% lower than the average coconut water and 50% lower than the average sports drink.
Given SOS was established by a doctor, two former elite athletes and a retired military medical officer I’m not going to argue!
Instead I’ll keep drinking away! Being only 25 calories per 500ml serving also means the drink concentrates on rehydrating without any unnecessary ingredients. Although I’ve not tried it, it’s also supposedly and excellent hangover cure…
One negative is the price. You can pick up boxes from Amazon though and of course check out more information at SOS Rehydrate
